What Blepharoplasty Can do for you?

Blepharoplasty has both functional and aesthetic benefits: it reduces puffiness and the look of eyebags, and can improve the eyesight of those with skin that sag around the eyes.

  • - Corrects drooping upper eyelids
  • - Improves vision for those with severe cases of eyelid ptosis
  • - Smoothes wrinkles around eyes and reduces the look of eyebags and puffiness

When will a doctor recommend a blepharoplasty?

Eyelid ptosis, also called blepharoptosis or lazy eye, is a condition in which the upper eyelid starts to droop or fall. Severe cases of eyelid ptosis can cause impaired vision and facial asymmetry. A doctor can also recommend the blepharoplasty procedure for aesthetic reasons. It reduces under eye circles and puffiness and may smoothen out some wrinkles.

FAQs

What is blepharoplasty?
It is a type of treatment that repairs droopy eyelids that are a result of age. As we get older, the eyelids stretch and the muscles supporting them weaken. The treatment may remove excess skin, muscle, and fat.

How do I know if I need blepharoplasty?
- If you have impared vision because of severe eyelid ptosis.
- If you have excessively saggy skin around your eyes.
- If you have puffy eyelids caused by excess fat.
- If you have bags under your eyes.
- If you have hooded upper eyelids.

How long does a blepharoplasty last?
Upper eyelid procedures may last for five to seven years, while lower eyelid procedures can last for more than twenty years.

Is blepharoplasty a safe procedure?
Like any treatment, this treatment also carries risks. Minor side effects of this procedure include temporary blurry vision and bruising and swelling. However, these are part of the normal healing process after treatment and will typically resolve on their own.

How long is the recovery time for this procedure?
Normal side effects such as bruising and swelling can heal on their own about a week after the procedure. If non-dissolving stitches were used during the procedure, they can be removed after ten days. While recovery times may vary, most patients are fully recovered after one month.
